An apology is owed.
The St Louis Police Department owes the world an apology for pulling this Caution off the tracks. They were absolutely cookin' during the Cryptical reprise
...
before Phil insisted on an unprecedented Cryptical>Caution. Or maybe the Wash U faculty owes us the apology for forcing a late start due to wanting to wait until night classes were over. Or maybe Bear for surely hassling with the sound longer than necessary. "Leave the hassles for the heat." I consider May the final month for the Live/Dead era. June perhaps. I really like the late-Live/Dead era Dark Stars - this one's good - but am not a fan of the It's a Sin diverted St Stephen's. I imagine I'd have found it neat if I were in attendance but the Eleven fake out like on 4/5/69 would have likely erased any joy of the novelty (I'm just a sucker for a good Eleven). But this was just when they were about to move on from the Live/Dead format and these last takes on the suites got shaken up a bit, can't blame em. This must have been a tremendous evening to have attended. Damn shame the cops had to blue ball that Caution though...but hey, St Louis got the only Caution of 1971.
